The initial recovery period for rhinoplasty typically lasts about 2 weeks, during which most swelling and bruising subside. However, minor swelling can persist for up to a year, gradually decreasing over time. Most patients can return to work and normal activities within 2 weeks, but should avoid strenuous activities for at least 4-6 weeks.
Patients usually report mild to moderate discomfort rather than pain after rhinoplasty, which can be effectively managed with pain medication prescribed by the surgeon. The first few days post-operation are when discomfort is most noticeable, especially due to nasal congestion and the healing process.
